Peter Heding: Sandblasted Mushroom with Boxwood
Product Number: 002-362-0251
Take a selection of random pipemakers from around the world and ask them to produce a rendition of the Mushroom shape. You're likely to have a selection of markedly different pieces, ranging from squat, low-slung Tomatoes, elegant Bulldog-like offerings, and perhaps even some very literal, heavily organic designs. Peter Heding's are quite distinctive in their own right, typically presenting itself as a playful, domed take on the Acorn. This one is more on the tubular end of things, with a rounded, muscular shank giving way to a forward-thrust, gesturally-extended Acorn bowl. Its sandblast is fairly light-depth, though revealing a pronounced degree of ring-grained texture all without disrupting the shape's neat lines. Accented with a bit of lighter boxwood, it's a handsome, eager number.- Daniel Bumgardner
