Peter Heding: Rusticated Brandy with Bamboo
Product Number: 002-362-0259
One of Peter Heding's more trim and streamlined numbers, this bent Brandy is full of classic Danish cues, masterfully executed by the experienced artisan and with a touch of subtle creativity. In profile, this piece is defined by the Danish school's soft lines and supple curves, the bowl gently tapered and symmetrically rounded fore and aft, the underside resembling the consistent plumpness of, say, the Ball design. I love the way Heding has raised the transition here, defining the heel and adding more plumpness to the bowl. Though this is a very slight deviation from the classic form, it drastically alters the silhouette, continuing the rhythm of the bamboo knuckles through the shank. Following the crispness of the organic medium, Peter has chamfered the rim — as opposed to inflating it as would many other Danish carvers — contrasting the bowl's plump lines. Dressed in a conservative sandblast, the pale hues are allowed to shine through, accented by the light stain of the rim.-Truett Smith
