Peter Heding: Smooth Horn (Diamond)
Product Number: 002-362-0263
Seemingly a favored shape of Peter's, the Horn is one well-represented amongst Heding's body of work. We've seen quite a dynamic array, from those which follow a fluid, continuous arc to those with a serious degree of powerful gesture. This one, I'd say, seems to tread the line between those two extremes, resulting in a structured, alert-looking briar with no shortage of dynamism, and likewise a form that maintains a pleasantly ergonomic feel in hand.
The broad, domed rim serves to emphasize the upward-thrust gesture at play here, as does the tiger-like streaks of flame up the left and right flanks, emanating from the transition. Said flame directs the eye to the beautifully-framed sea of birdseye down below, all highlighted by one of Peter's exquisite contrast stains. Needless to say, it's well-deserving of its heralded Diamond grade, denoting the upper-echelon of the carver's work. A magnificent specimen.- Daniel Bumgardner
