Peter Heding: Smooth Elephant's Foot with Boxwood (Diamond) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-362-0296
Originally a molecular biologist, Peter Heding discovered his affinity for pipe making after watching an interview with legendary carver Anne Julie. Since then, the Danish artisan has earned his own formidable reputation as an esteemed pipe maker. This Elephant's Foot is a fine testament to Heding's expertise and artistic sensibility, featuring a tall ovoid bowl in the paneled design created by Bo Nordh. The bowl's walls are broad and convex at the fore and aft, flanked by rectangular sections delineated by firm ridgelines that wrap around the underside of the bowl, tilting slightly rearward to create a defined heel and sleek silhouette. The distinctive bowl rests at the fore of a balanced round shank that turns upward to meet a flared boxwood accent at its conjunction to a hand-cut vulcanite saddle stem that arcs smoothly downward for smoking comfort. The stummel is dressed in a rich auburn stain, highlighting the excellent birdseye and cross grain, perfectly oriented to align with the planes and ridges of the bowl.
This pipe is further distinguished by its Diamond-grade status, Heding's most prestigious designation, reserved only for pipes that display that finest grain and shaping to leave his workshop.-Gabriel Bass
