Peter Heding: Smooth Elephant's Foot with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-362-0313

With a shaping style steeped in the Danish artisan tradition, Peter Heding is among Denmark's premier artisan pipe makers. His résumé is elevated by tutelage from Tom Eltang, and Heding's quality craftsmanship is matched by his artistic eye, often drawing inspiration from masters before him combined with his own creative vision.

Originally designed by Swedish artisan pipe maker Bo Nordh, the Elephant's Foot highlights cross grain along the flanks with birdseye fore and aft. Typically, the form makes use of panel along the sides, but Heding has opted for a softer, more rounded aesthetic for this iteration. The bowl reveals a nearly conical nature, only with a slight taper toward the rim, and while the flanks do display the shape's typical cross-grain orientation, they're left rounded instead of faceted. Behind, horizontal grain wraps the entirely of the shank, and it's accented by boxwood before leading into the hand-cut vulcanite stem, the base of which is shaped with a flared and domed aspect that hearkens to vintage Danish pipes.
