Peter Heeschen: Smooth Bent Egg with Black Palm (A)
Product Number: 002-283-0696
"Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" While this age old question could be considered cliche, I think of it every time I see one of Peter Heeschen's bent Egg shapes. The egg of course, while being of smooth and wind resistant design, and while eventually yielding
a creature which can take to the skies gracefully, would never in nature be expected to fly of its own accord. But Heeschen imbues his design with such lilting lightness, even with aviary flourish, blurring the line between Egg and bird, that neither precedes the other, and each seems to fly as one. No other carver in my immediate lexicon so deftly creates an Egg so defiant of gravity and full of motion as the bird it was laid by or the bird it shall become.
