Il Cerchio: Smooth Blowfish with Spalted Tamarind Tobacco Pipe

Inspired by the symbolism of the circle, or Il Cerchio, each piece reflects del Prete's commitment to harmony and precision, where every curve and line is intentional.

The Blowfish is one of the most versatile shapes in pipe-making, offering vast potential for creative experimentation based on the individual carver's vision. As is characteristic of the Blowfish shape, this piece by Il Cerchio displays a powerful asymmetry throughout the design. The entire stummel is bisected by a prominent central panel, which was expertly oriented to showcase striking cross grain that lines the composition. The asymmetry that runs through the form is organic, yet balanced, featuring some subtle obliqueness along the bowl's flanks and shank, which is subtle enough not to be immediately noticeable when viewing this piece in profile. The bisecting panel perfectly frames the upper and lower portions of the shank, carrying the structured cross grain to the end of the briar section of the shank. The shank is completed by a warm section of spalted tamarind that flares to the junction. A sleek, push-style stem of black vulcanite completes the design, featuring an expansion ring along its base for a touch of refinement. The stummel is finished smooth in a deep mahogany stain, highlighting the aforementioned cross grain and captivating swirls of birdseye along its flanks.
