IMP Meerschaum: Smooth Reverse Calabash Bent Apple with Silver (with Case)
Product Number: 002-316-3963
Meerschaum is oft regarded, and utilized, as a medium in which to carve intricate, figural sculptures, representative of fantastical or naturalistic subjects that vary wildly. IMP Meerschaum have used their collective talent to do just the opposite: carve a meerschaum pipe adhering to the shaping conventions of traditional briars. This bent Apple is a beautifully carved, skillfully shaped reverse Calabash, a difficult system to accomplish, which includes a separate chamber within the shank that condenses moisture and allows for a cooler smoke. The shank end is a gleaming silver band that meets a flared, ridged portion of the shank which tapers into the transition, a fluid, abbreviated affair that builds to a bulbous bowl that, when resting on the heel's apex, cants forward ever so slightly. The shape of the bent Apple is rendered here with the addition of the delightful chubbiness of the reverse Calabash system and with keen expertise that showcases unquestionable skill. This pipe is sure to be an ideal candidate for collecting or for smoking, especially considering its smooth, white finish, sure to patinate handsomely.-John McElheny
