J. Mouton: Natural Sandblasted Billiard with Siberian Jadeite Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-971-0003
Based out of Gueydan, Louisiana, where he was born and raised, Jason Mouton's shaping style is informed by his meticulous eye, continuing to study a variety of artisan works voraciously since he first became acquainted with the craft. Mouton's pipes show strong American inclinations with their compact muscularity, with the fore hosting a touch more plump substance as a signature design cue. Seen here is a particularly bowl-centric Billiard design from the American artisan, with stark shaping contrast shown throughout the composition. A tall bowl stands at the fore with an upright posture, its walls traveling from the broad base and showing a slight taper to the rim, creating an almost Brandy-like figure that fits comfortably in the hand. Flanked by a pair of crisp facets, an exceptionally squat, broad shank emerges from a low-set transition, offering plenty of room for a thumb to rest. Punctuating the design is a trim, abbreviated saddle stem, which pairs with the shank to lend greater visual weight to the bowl in profile. A crisp, natural sandblast grants the stummel a warm, earthy complexion, its palette offered a delightful bit of contrast by the cooler tones of Siberian jadeite adorning the shank end and the base of the stem.
