J. Mouton: Sandblasted Mushroom with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-971-0002
Based out of Gueydan, Louisiana, where he was born and raised, Jason Mouton's shaping style is informed by his meticulous eye, continuing to study a variety of artisan works voraciously since he first became acquainted with the craft. Mouton's pipes show strong American inclinations with their compact muscularity, with the fore hosting a touch more plump substance as a signature design cue. This Mushroom rendition by Mouton packs an impressive physique within a diminutive length, its gestural, forward-urging stance eager to fill the hand. The bowl's hearty figure stands upon a sweeping heel from which thick walls flare toward the supple, inflated rim. A robust shank tapers seamlessly from the bowl out back, curling upward from the transition to meet a gingerly bent saddle stem of swirling, translucent acrylic. The shank-and-stem further emphasize this pipe's sense of plumpness, with the junction adorned with a round accent band of bamboo and the base of the stem showing a bit of curvature to echo the stummel's shaping. Dressed in a warm tanblast, the stummel displays waves of rippling growth rings across both flanks, with the rim accentuated by a smooth finish.
