Jared Coles: Partially Sandblasted Longshank Bent Dublin (1682) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-738-0016
Previously we saw a lovely Ilsted-like take on the bent Dublin from Jared Coles. Here he presents us with another lovely Dublin, but one that takes shaping in a very different direction; where the evidently Ilsted-inspired number was architectural, this one is all organic in style. Granted it possesses very little in the way of asymmetry (some is there, but it's subtle), but the wave-roll of a rim, flower-bud like presentation of the bowl at the end of its transition, the modest kisses of plateau at shank-end and up top, and even the contrasted-and-sandblasted finish itself all speak of an organic direction. Speaking of that latter-most, the finish, while at a bit of distance is dominated by the block's bold flame grain, a closer look reveals a hell of a lot of lightly, delicately defined ring grain — tight in pattern and both covering the bowl and running the length of the shank (which as the title suggests, is not inconsiderable).
