Jared Coles: Smooth Bent Apple with Silver (1713) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-738-0019
In the plump waistline of the bowl, the high-set orientation of the transition, and the smooth, upward arcing gesture of the shank, this bent Apple from Jared Coles seems to nod to some of Sixten's more organic shapes, like the Peewit among others — albeit brought to the modern American pipemaking stage through the more Industrial style of mouthpiece. That classic Danish vs modern American balance makes for quite a striking silhouette, with the soft curves of the base's underside adding a touch of playfulness as it protrudes just below the axis of the transition. Of course, Jared's paid careful attention to grain orientation as well, finishing the stummel in a warm orange-and-walnut contrast — highlighting an impressive display of straight and flame grain all around.
