Jared Coles: Smooth Bent Dublin with Orange Wood (1712) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-738-0020
A powerful and poised take on the bent Dublin, here Jared has really lent the traditional shape an extra level of dynamism, balancing the form's light, lifting heel and continuous sweeping arc along the underside with harder lines along the near-taperless aft and the high-set waistline of the bowl. Together with the subtle dome of the rim and modest bend of the stem, that juxtaposition of hard line and sweeping curve lends the silhouette a daring sense of implied forward momentum, seemingly rushing forward at great speeds. All impressive shaping cues, no doubt, but I particularly like what Jared's done around the shank end and stem base, keeping the former crowned in craggy plateau while adding a subtle visual break between it and the orange wood stem accent, allowing for just the slightest hint of the organic.
