Jared Coles: Sandblasted Scoop with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-738-0082
According to our archives, the only time we previously received a Scoop design from American artisan Jared Coles was over five years ago, but the precision and artistry present here would lead me to believe this is a shape he has made hundreds of times. A bit like an Acorn, with a protruding heel spur and organic, rounded bowl, forward posture and reaching rim, the latter in this case displaying a gentles undulation, define the Scoop shape. The high-kicking shank and downturned stem also play a part, although the sleek saddle stem that crowns this gem is almost imperceptibly bent.
A low profile sandblast and vibrant stain offer plenty or texture around the bowl, while a pale double-knuckle section of bamboo extends the abbreviated shank, furthering the pipe's organic appeal. The black vulcanite of the hand-cut mouthpiece melds seamlessly with the composition, seeming to be a twig growing from the pipe's stummel. This delightful piece is quite light in hand, offering plenty to admire without adding in any unnecessary bulk.
