Jared Coles: Sandblasted Apple with Horn Tobacco Pipe

A sure Sitter thanks to its flattened underside, this straight Apple from Jared Coles is a fine example of American pipe making, its stout shaping presented within a compact form. Measuring just under five inches in total length, this low-lying pipe also features the soft contours and easy, clean lines seen in Danish design. The charmingly plump, rounded bowl displays a gentle taper to the smooth, chamfered rim and presents cheeking by the mid-set transition, while the equally stout shank tapers ever-so-subtly toward the jet-black, slender saddle stem. The artisan has accentuated the shank end with genuine horn, its lighter tones contrasted by those of the mouthpiece. Coles has dressed this svelte pipe in a low-profile, smoky sandblast, unveiling rippling stacks of wavy growth rings, with the auburn-stained, smooth rim revealing handsome little whorls of birdseye.
