Jared Coles: Sandblasted Bent Billiard with Ivorite Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-738-0106
Jared Coles began his pipe-making career when he founded J&J Pipes with his good friend and talented pipe maker John Klose. After eight years, the two amicably parted ways, and since then Coles has fashioned pipes under his own name. His shaping style meanders from organic shapes to more traditional designs, but either way, his pipes are always rendered with precision and an eye for detail. Here, the American artisan presents a Danish-inspired bent Billiard, with a tall, upright bowl that tapers from the plump heel toward the rim. Said rim favors the fore a touch over the aft for a sense of implied momentum, while the curling shank meets a downturned saddle stem of brindled vulcanite out back. While the shape is quite compact in terms of length, measuring exactly five inches from bowl to bit, it still offers a chamber of respectable depth. The elegant bend through the shank and stem, the healthy chamber capacity, and the lightweight nature of the design make it an ideal candidate for those looking for an on-the-go smoker. It looks quite fetching in a dark, grain-defining sandblast and accented by a bright band of Ivorite. Stylish, elegant, and simply delightful, this piece is a charming bit of American craftsmanship that can't help but entice.
