Jared Coles: Sandblasted Horn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-738-0117
Jared Coles' portfolio ranges from traditional shape-chart standards to more free-flowing, organic designs. This Horn is a fine marriage of both styles, and it nicely recreates the sweeping curves and contours of Danish pipe making while still retaining the muscularity for which Coles' work is known.
At just a touch over five inches ilong, this Horn is a fairly reserved take on the classic form ,but even given its reduced length, it maintains a palpable girth, most clearly at the bowl, which is supported by thick, insulating walls and a broad rim. As is typical for the shape, the stummel here tapers across its length, gradually diminishing from the rim to the shank end. As it tapers, the stummel takes on a pronounced curvature that immediately captures the eye in profile. This curvature is continues by the saddle stem, which flicks upward, mirroring the bowl's vaulted posture. A dark sandblast dresses the stummel and highlights striking growth rings, which further highlight the form's crescent-shaped build.
