Jody Davis: Partially Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Ox Horn (Abbot) (A16) (15) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-718-0018
By keeping things fairly low-slung and squat in profile, yet really trimming down the lifting heel of the bowl and adding the slightest hint of upward curve to the underside of the shank, Jody Davis has here taken a fairly upright design and transformed it into something with a fast, forward rushing sense of implied movement in profile. That implied momentum is accentuated even further though a crisp, Ivarsson-esque teardrop line along the right flank — highlighting the continuous, sweeping curve that serves as the focal axis for the design. The result is just a striking take on the Dublin shape, fittingly executed in a gorgeous dual finish and topped with a thin wafer of dark ox horn. Some very nice flame and straight grain on this beautiful briar as well.
