Jody Davis: Smooth Horn (Saint) (B21) (03) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-718-0055

American artisan Jody Davis has carved fine pipes for decades, cultivating a Danish-inflected style that helped popularize the shapes and features of that school in the contemporary American briar vernacular. Davis pipes are few and far between these days, balancing pipe carving with a busy touring schedule. This piece is particularly rare, bearing Davis's coveted Saint grade designation, denoting pieces of superior quality. Taking the form of Horn, this pipe features a shallow oval cross section that arcs smoothly from a domed rim through to a hand-cut vulcanite stem. The briar is worked in perfect synergy with its natural grain, featuring excellent birdseye along the top and bottom, flanked by tight bands of flame grain that culminate at the rim. Dressed in a rich honey-blonde stain, this piece adds a touch of tactile interest along the bottom of the shank with a patch of rugged plateau.
