Both a skilled musician and a talented pipe artisan, Jody Davis's skill does not go unnoticed in either industry. As seen with many American craftsmen, Davis produces more compact and muscular designs, however, he also pulls from Danish influences as well. While this Billiard from Jody Davis stays true to the shape-chart standard, its unique qualities come from the use of material and texture within the pipe. Rising from a firm heel, the walls of the bowl create the classic cylindrical silhouette as they meet a flat rim that looks into a capacious tobacco chamber. Out back, the transition gives way to a rounded shank that quickly meets a tapered stem made of jet-black vulcanite, save for its base, which is wrapped in an accent band made of spalted tamarind. The hues of the stem and accent pair well to the sandblasted stummel which is coated in a ruby stain and showcases handsome growth rings throughout.
