Danish artisan Kai Nielsen has carved pipes since the 1970's, beginning in his father Viggo's factory. This chubby Tomato is an excellent example of Nielsen's penchant for high-quality pocket pipes, featuring a plump rounded bowl resting on a soft heel the fore of an abbreviated round shank. A hand-cut horn stem brings up the rear, a unique example of a saddle stem rendered from the organic material. This piece displays Nielsen's highest grade designation, aptly named a Jewel of Denmark. Dressed in a rich walnut stain, the stummel boasts fine flame grain around the bowl, interspersed with swirling birdseye.
