This bent Bulldog is a fine example of Kai Nielsen's craftsmanship, displaying the precise shaping, gestural line work, and stylish finishing that defines a great many of the Danish carver's designs. As is typical for the form, this piece features a plump bowl with a low-set waistline marked by a pair of wrapping beadlines. Said beadlines demarcate the tapered rim from the wide heel, while a diamond shank curves out back and marries a half-saddle stem of jet-black vulcanite. The shank's firm, structural lines add a rigid definition to the pipe's silhouette and reinforce the shape's brawny build. A dark sandblast dresses the stummel and brings a vivid definition to the natural grain orientation of the briar.
