Kai Nielsen: Smooth Bulldog with Horn Stem (Jewel of Denmark) (D) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-137-0171
A second-generation pipe maker, Kai Nielsen could be said to have pipe making in his blood. His father, Viggo, was the founder of the Bari factory in 1948. At the age of 21, Kai joined the Bari production team and has been making pipes ever since. Now, with decades of experience, Nielsen crafts pipes under his own name, offering stellar designs like this lean, structural Bulldog. As part of Nielsen's Jewel of Denmark line, this piece represents the Danish carver's finest work and displays a simply eye-catching silhouette. A particularly angular design, this piece boasts a plump, beadline-wrapped bowl that stands atop a sharp, forward-ebbing heel. A protracted diamond shank and an abbreviated tapered stem bring up the rear and complete the ensemble. A smoky smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights some striking grain throughout, its dark hues contrasted by the horn stem's creamy complexion.--Davin Hylton
