Kai Nielsen: Smooth Acorn (Jewel of Denmark) (C) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-137-0176

The son of Viggo Nielsen, Kai Nielsen began his pipe-making career at a young age, working in his father's factory as a teenager and eventually becoming a full-time employee when he turned 21. Over his 50 years of pipe making, Kai has developed a unique shaping aesthetic that's well-represented by this Acorn. Though rather stocky in hand, this piece is quite compact in terms of length, measuring less than five inches from bowl to bit. The plump, rounded bowl boasts a subtle forward cant and a dramatic upward flare, which begins at the lifted heel and terminates at the broad, domed rim. An ovoid shank brings up the rear and marries a demurely curved mouthpiece, the latter continuing the lines and trajectory of the former. Dressed in an auburn smooth finish, the stummel displays some striking grain around the bowl's flanks.
