Kai Nielsen: Smooth Acorn (Jewel of Denmark) (B) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-137-0203
The son of Viggo Nielsen, founder of the Bari pipe factory, Kai Nielsen spent his teenage years working in his father's shop for pocket money. This early start saw him committing to full-time work there when he turned 21, the wealth of experience aiding him in becoming a prolific artisan in his own right. This Acorn is a fine example of Nielsen's style, offering a handsome mixture of supple curves and clean, soft lines. The bowl here flares from its lifted heel to its broad, rounded rim, and as it does, it takes on a subtle forward cant that keeps the entire shape looking dynamic and active in profile. Said bowl is situated at the fore of an upturned oval shank and a demurely curved half-saddle stem, the latter of which promotes a comfortable smoking posture. Dressing this piece is a dark auburn smooth finish that highlights gorgeous grain throughout the stummel.
