Ken Dederichs: Smooth Freehand Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-806-0066
Ken'ichiro Dederichs-Uchida began his journey in Japan, later relocating to Germany where he produces fine pipes to the highest standards, prioritizing quality over quantity. His designs often reveal strong organic cues, referencing Japanese and Danish styles, with this Freehand being an excellent example.
A tour de force of a organic asymmetry, this Freehand is a substantial and gracefully flowing design that emphasizes the distinctive bowl. Said bowl is quite broad, resting comfortably in hand, with walls that flare out from a soft heel to meet an exceptionally broad, domed rim that undulates as the fore dips down to create a dynamic cant and the rear surges backward to create a dramatic, sloping profile. This bit of artistry rests at the fore of a cheeked transition to a soft oval shank that curls upward to finish in domed face joined to a comfortably bent vulcanite saddle stem. Dressed in a rich, earthy stain, the stummel boasts excellent flame grain all around the bowl, while the flowing rim is coated in a thick field of birdseye.
