Ken Dederichs: Smooth Bent Apple Sitter Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-806-0070
Ken'ichiro Dederichs-Uchida began his journey in Japan, later relocating to Germany where he produces fine pipes to the highest standards, prioritizing quality over quantity. His designs often reveal strong organic cues, referencing Japanese and Danish styles, with this bent Apple Sitter being an excellent example.
This piece leans more toward the Japanese side of Diderich's portfolio, employing a particularly organic and hearty silhouette, and centering a playful asymmetry. At the fore rests a globular bowl that centers its mass near the rim, with a full midriff that tapers toward the rim and the heel, producing an organic asymmetry that lends the bowl an ergonomic comfort in hand. Said bowl rests atop a flattened heel, lending this piece its Sitter status, while a high-kicking round shank bursts forth from a defined transition, culminating in a domed junction to a comfortably bent saddle stem of black vulcanite. Dressed in a rich auburn finish, the stummel displays an engaging mix of flame grain and birdseye around the bowl's rim and walls, respectively.
