Lan Zhenjun: Sandblasted Asymmetric Bent Dublin with Boxwood
Product Number: 002-749-0014
In profile, this bent Dublin from Lan Zhenjun would seem fairly conservative, drawing on his influences from Jorn Micke and other Danish and Japanese greats in the pronounced, rounded base of the bowl, high-set orientation of the transition, and the upward-flicking, flared nature of the shank. Viewed from above, however, it's clear this isn't your father's Dublin. Lan's really played with the asymmetry here, with the shank and stem following a slight arcing curve to the left, lending the piece a sense of organic dynamism and movement. It may be subtle, but it's these variations that really make Lan's work for me. You can't fully appreciate a LAN pipe until you hold it in your hand and view it from all angles. But when you do, it truly is impressive.- Andrew Wike
