Lan Zhenjun: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Silver Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-749-0027
Lan Zhenjun is a Chinese artisan that takes inspiration from the Danish school of design and produces pipes with an emphasis on supple curves and clean, efficient lines. This bent Apple showcases Zhenjun's unique shaping style and features a broad spherical bowl that rises at the fore of an upturned shank and a demurely curved saddle stem. The bowl stands atop a lifted heel and boasts a subtle taper from its wide heel to its tauter rim. The shank-and-stem arrangement curls from the low-set transition and strikes a subdued S-curve out back that terminates at precisely the same height as the rim, creating a sense of visual symmetry across either end of the composition. The bowl's contoured insulating walls conform naturally to the hand and expand outward at the flanks, forming a wide waistline. A dark sandblast dresses the stummel and penetrates deep into the briar, drawing out stimulating waves of growth rings across the bowl's surface. A sterling silver accent adorns the junction and ties the entire design together with a touch of flash.--Davin Hylton
