Lan Zhenjun: Sandblasted Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-749-0029

Chinese artisan Lan Zhenjun is a highly regarded pipe maker who reinterprets Danish classics with special emphasis on clean lines and reserved stylings. Originally a graphic designer, Zhenjun became enamored with pipes, resigning from his former career to take up the craft full time, later studying with fellow carvers like Ping Zhan, Sam Cui, and Li Zhesong.

This bent Dublin is a fine example of Zhenjun's style, featuring an affably plump bowl defined by curvaceous walls and an ever-so-slightly domed rim. The heel is soft and curves smoothly into the gently defined transition. Out back, an oval shank maintains a traditional 1:1 ratio with the height of the bowl, bending upward in an exceptionally clean, crisp line. A hand-cut vulcanite stem completes the composition, deftly bent to perfectly mirror the undercurve of the shank.

The stummel is dressed in a crisp black sandblast, borrowed from Danish design. The sleek, glossy texture around the bowl features excellent pebble grain interspersed with well-defined growth rings, lending this piece an abundance of tactile interest. This understated yet masterfully crafted piece is worthy of a place on even the most discriminating pipe rack.
