Larry Roush: Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Silver (S5) (2463) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-830-0011
At the onset of his career, Larry Roush was mentored by fellow American carver, Michael Butera, and has since become widely recognized and renowned throughout the pipemaking world — especially for his robust shaping, crisp sandblasts, and expert silver work. Offered here is an affably bent Dublin, with hints at the Hourglass design, with a jaunty profile that's apparent even within its hearty overall size. Displaying proportions similar to that of the Italian school, the flaring bowl is slightly pinched at the waistline and houses a generous amount of chamber. There's a touch more stoutness at the shank and transition in this piece than other renditions we've seen from Larry, keeping this one well balanced and consistent in profile. For a finish, the stummel is beautifully sandblasted and stained extra dark to contrast the smoky walnut hue of the polished rim, and it's all a delight to hold in hand. Lastly, Larry does all his own silver work and has accented this piece with a trim ring of sterling silver at the shank-end, transitioning into the brindled stem of sand and earth hues.
