A beautifully minimalist Acorn shape from Li Zhesong, this piece is a great example of just how clean he can get a profile, balancing smooth Danish lines with a bit more active poise. The choice to keep the shank oval here was a good one, keeping its visual focus low so as to accentuate the clean, sweeping line running down the taper of the bowl, heel, and gently lifting underside. The eye is easily drawn from the domed rim, through the transition, and along the shank to the thin mouthpiece in such a fluid, continuous way. For all that seamless shaping, Li's still done well to make the form functional, with the softened curves fitting naturally to the contours of the palm for a comfortable feel in hand. And the grain's just stellar as well.
