Gregor Lobnik: Smooth Bent Apple with Bamboo
Product Number: 002-357-0124
I'm always pleasantly surprised when a pipe seems to belie its true size in visual representations, as Gregor Lobnik's often seem to do. This eager bent Apple shape made for one such reveal, as its combination of forthright roundness and trim, sprightly shank extension served to lend the impression of a briar of generous form. However, though it's not what I would call overtly compact, it certainly makes for a seriously manageable, organically-inclined smoker that evokes the look of Sixten's more natural-esque, bamboo-shanked numbers, to my eye.
The plump bulb of a bowl is packed with feathery flame, not to mention a strong impression of underlying ring grain traveling up all flanks. Said ring grain is so pronounced in fact that I have no doubt this piece would have made one hell of a sandblast, though I have to say the combination of warm, smoldering contrast and honey blonde bamboo operating in perfect rhythm with the composition at large is nothing short of stunning. A gorgeous piece from Gregor.- Daniel Bumgardner
