Luiz Lavos: Sandblasted Acorn with Jupati Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-881-0048
Brazilian artisan Luiz Lavos developed a deep appreciation for woodworking in his grandfather's workshop from an early age. With a background in graphic design and a strong foundation in woodworking, Lavos eventually ventured into the art of pipe making. His work is inspired by renowned Danish craftsman such as Tom Eltang, Jess Chonowitsch, and Hans "Former" Nielsen. Lavos' Danish influence is reflected in this Acorn, showcasing the same fluid curves, meticulous line work, and organic aesthetic characteristics of that school of design. The fore features a supple bowl, with flared walls rising from a lifted heel to a softly rounded, inflated rim. Out back, the shank emerges from a low-set transition and curves upward, flaring out to the broad base of the stem, which is highlighted by a striking jupati accent. From there, the slender saddle stem gracefully arcs to the bit, perfectly completing this piece's subtle, sinuous form. The stummel is dressed in a mahogany stain and detailed sandblast, highlighting intricate growth rings that ripple up the walls of the bowl.
