Manduela: Sandblasted Bent Billiard with Bone Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-747-0009
I'm a big fan of this sort of "swan necked" bent Billiard, and this tapered, swinging version from Manduela Riger-Kusk has a bit of the classic to it. Its transition is kept tight and close to the bowl, allowing the upward-sweeping shank to form a broad U-bend in its negative space. While there is a faint S-curve in the underside, the stem doesn't break to the horizontal in the way many swan neck designs do, giving a slight flicking gesture instead of the bill-like taper. It's neat work, and its classic dark sandblast, with a good deal of ring grain, helps accentuate the bowl's slight taper. It's been topped with a small ring of natural bone and a purple vulcanite stem, a touch that adds a bit of color to what would otherwise be a subdued palette.
