Mark Tinsky: Tan Sandblasted Bent Dublin Christmas 2019
Product Number: 002-035-0608
Mark Tinsky has been crafting his annual Christmas pipe series since 1983, selecting a singular shape and dressing it in a variety of finishes and color palettes. For 2019's edition, the American carver has selected a flaring bent Dublin as the defining shape, with Tinsky tweaking the proportions and style of each individual piece. This example wears a dual finish, the rim left smooth while the rest of the stummel has been treated to a crisp sandblast, both united by the tan stain that covers both textures. The sandblast is my favorite aspect of this piece, with waves of rippling grain radiating across the bowl's surface and offering an abundance of rich texture to keep your fingers entertained. What's more, the light tan tones of the stummel will take on more character with time, gradually developing a patina with each bowl that's enjoyed inside.- Jeffery Sitts
