Mark Tinsky: Black and Tan Eskimo with Bocote and Accent (6) (One Star)

Product Number: 002-035-0845

Only the second Eskimo we have ever had from Mark Tinsky, I have to say the American carver pulled out all the stops on this one. The broad, low-slung shape is livened up considerably by a wide accent of becote around the rim and and another at the base of it's wide saddle stem. A beadline encircles the bowl, discretely tucked in under the Calabash-like becote overhang, below which striking flame grain is illuminated by a contrast stain. Tinsky isn't done yet, however, and adds a section of dark rustication on the top of the shank, providing an intriguing texture for a thumb to rest on. With a whole lot of interwoven design elements and boasting a coveted "Star" stamp for grain quality, this piece is a cut above its peers and will liven any collection.
