Mark Tinsky: Root Paneled Calabash (6) (Two Star)

Product Number: 002-035-0885

A crisp, geometric rendition of the Calabash, this piece from Mark Tinsky has six facets that encompass the bowl, giving it a distinct, hexagonal shape, which extends from the cap through the body of the bowl. The prominence of the firm lines accentuates the deep curvature of the piece, drawing the eye from the rim, to the sweeping heel and thick transition, and up the high-kicking diamond shank to the deep arc of the acrylic saddle stem. The warm Root finish draws out some rather exquisite birdseye across the rim and heel, while tight bands of flame grain flow across the stummel, starkly defined by the angular shaping of the piece.
