Sleek and sophisticated, this straight Billiard from Mark Tinsky lacks the unique accent materials and playful shaping for which he is known, instead offering a lean, precise piece of sturdy craftsmanship. The pert, upright bowl sits stoically at the front of the pipe, bolstered by the low-slung shank-and-stem combination. Though the oval shank brings to mind a Lovat, its relatively balanced proportions, both in relation to the bowl and stem, disqualify it. Dressed in a traditional finish that accentuates the windswept flame grain on the flanks and the stellar birdseye across the rim and shank, this handsome piece fits firmly in hand and exudes a relaxed charm.
