Mark Tinsky: Blast Bent Apple (4) Tobacco Pipe

The bowl of this bent Apple from Mark Tinsky has a lifted heel that enables a gestural poise, which, when paired to the soft, round features of the bowl, lends the piece a sense of dynamism in profile. The shank flows out of the low-slung transition, bolstering the forward momentum of the bowl while subtly reaching upwards where it meets a pale accent at the junction, leading to a black, downturned, tapered stem. The stem terminates at nearly the same height as the bowl, creating a visual balance at both ends of the pipe. Dressed in an inky sandblast, courtesy of the aptly named Blast series, this piece displays some handsome textural grain throughout its build, with the accent adding some lovely contrast.
