Mark Tinsky: Natural Bent Egg (6) (Two Star) (Glenn Tinsky) Tobacco Pipe

This is quite the robust bent Egg here from American carver Glenn Tinsky, displaying well the skills he's learned from his father Mark and presenting with a profile that is delightfully sinuous. The tapered stem of jet-black acrylic takes on a demure arc as it travels skyward from the shank, with said shank being imparted with both an appreciable degree of thickness and a gradual taper from the transition, something that the stem continues. There's plenty of room to drape a thumb at the transition as well, its width slightly compressed by the upward curve of the shank, though the enhanced muscularity of this pipe leaves it with ample space. A sweeping undercurve possesses the entirety of this pipe's outline, its travel uninterrupted from button to rim. This aspect enhances the curvaceous flow of the lines here a good bit, something that's most apparent to me at the heel, as it sweeps forward and lifts while it reaches toward the bowl. Said bowl is quite tall, nearly reaching two and a half inches, and displays a low-set waistline that then starts an easy taper to the rim, the rim itself chamfered into the chamber for easy loading of tobacco. The feel in hand is excellent, and the broad walls of the bowl provide an excellent canvas for the natural briar, the waxed surface of the burl showcasing tendrils of fine flame grain throughout, striated occasionally by rippling growth rings.
