Mastro Geppetto: Sabbiato Paneled Bent Bulldog Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-819-1269
Giancarlo Guidi founded Ser Jacopo in 1982, building a reputation on crafting high-quality briars that are renowned for their robust proportions and playful shaping cues. The Italian atelier's style has since defined the Pesaro style of pipe making, each of their pipes imbued with a sense of character and reflecting the whimsical creativity that went into crafting them. Mastro Geppetto is Ser Jacopo's sub-brand of more accessibly priced pipes that still maintain a high-quality of workmanship. Crafted in the Ser Jacopo workshop, these pieces embody the playful Pesaro style of their pricier counterparts, with this paneled bent Bulldog being an excellent example. Possessed of an extremely bare curvature at the saddle stem, this bent Bulldog is a handsome pipe which offers a muscular feel in hand. A wide transition gives way to a diamond-shaped shank, with this shaping informing the build of the saddle stem's base, and this firmness here matches with the bowl's uniquely rigid shaping. Said bowl stands atop a firm heel, and it grows walls out to a high-set waist whose standard ridge is defined by the arcing lines of the panels that wrap around the lower portion of the bowl. Dressed in a crisp sandblast, the stummel here showcases handsome grain throughout, additionally offering a wealth of texture in hand that works well with the rest of this pipe's firm shaping.-John McElheny
