Peter Matzhold: Smooth Bent Dublin with Horn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-290-0283
Peter Matzhold's design style is simple, with crisp lines and a keen eye for grain. This bent Dublin fits right in with that style, the supple upward curve of shank and gentle bevel of the rim creating a soft form, especially when paired to the crisp, tight form of the bowl. As for the grain, there's a good deal of lively flame grain on display here — not only climbing the bowl, but shank as well — and the rim is packed with tight whorls of birdseye. It's all brought out by a dark, warm contrast stain, and when combined with the streamlined form, it makes the grain the centerpiece of the pipe itself. A slim ring of natural horn at the stem base offers a touch of extra organic dynamism, neatly complementing the display of grain, as well as the piece's overall palette.
