Peter Matzhold: Smooth Dublin with Horn

Product Number: 002-290-0284

Peter Matzhold makes the Dublin shape his own with this finely grained piece. From the beveled inner bowl rim to the outside edge of the top is birdseye, with straight- and flame-grain encompassing the bowl. Straight pipes seem to be rare from Matzhold — clearly he enjoys working with curves, even on a straight piece like this. The far side of the bowl sweeps down in a pleasing curve to the straight edge at the bottom of the shank, and the sides echo that curve. Grain flames along both sides of the shank all the way to the exceptional horn fitment at the end of the stem. Even the transition from bowl to shank provides elegant inside curves. That's a lot of intricate curves for a straight pipe, but they all work together to form a composition any pipe smoker would be proud to own.
