Micah Redmond: Smooth Acorn with Bakelite and Boxwood
Product Number: 002-774-0021
Micah Redmond's Acorn seems to be in a constant state of adjustment, and we've seen quite the variety. From long-shanked renditions to this shorter, more aerodynamic piece, it's a shape he's clearly interested in evolving, despite excellent current results. In this example, the bowl is particularly bulb-like in its shaping, with a soft plumpness to its waist and just the right amount of forward cant, while the transition is marked by a small spur underneath, and the line of the shank flows smoothly with an easy taper. A dark contrast is accented by a thin disc of boxwood, as well as a pale mouthpiece of bakelite, making for a unique, modern profile that still isn't short on grain.- Rachel DuBose
