Micah Redmond: Sandblasted Tomato with Cocobolo
Product Number: 002-774-0039
Micah Redmond's signature Tomato shape varies in terms of its finish, color palette, and overall execution but is typically characterized by its chubby bowl and abbreviated, pocket friendly length. This particular example from the American artisan falls somewhere between his long-shank designs and diminutive interpretations in terms of its length. That said, each individual Tomato rendition showcases Redmond's artistic creativity and deft ability at taking a singular shape and re-imagining it in fresh, exciting ways.
The forward-urging bowl on this piece is remarkably broad and stout, wearing its waistline low before tapering up toward the rim. That waistline along with the slightly stretched transition promotes a comfortable feel in hand, the thumb and forefinger able to wrap around with ease. The sandblasted finish has unveiled an impressively tight array of ring grain, each wave remaining well-defined underneath the jet-black stain. A ring of cocobolo wood graces the shank end, pairing beautifully with the rich, dark tones of the cumberland mouthpiece. It's a piece rife with visual and tactile appeal, Redmond's creative vision on proud display.- Jeffery Sitts
