Micah Redmond: Sandblasted Tomato with Bakelite
Product Number: 002-774-0046
Micah Redmond continues to provide variations of his signature Tomato shape, with this long-shanked rendition among the lengthiest iteration we have seen to date. An American carver based in Tennessee, Micah shows a lot of Danish design influence with this piece, with an elongated, bulbous bowl with extra briar on the aft aspect, a lifted, gradual heel, and a robust, round shank that swoops downward before gently climbing and flaring toward the stem. The abbreviated, chocolate-hued Bakelite stem caps the shank with a domed profile, before turning down just slightly like the stem of a piece of fruit to complete the organic aesthetic. It's dressed in an inky-black, medium-depth sandblast, well-executed to display tight stacks of growth rings climbing the bowl. The pipe feels great in hand, with several natural resting positions and plenty for the finger pads and admiring eye to explore.- Joel Balyeat
