Micah Redmond: Sandblasted Tomato Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-774-0062
Like a great many American carvers, Micah Redmond favors compact shapes that retain a muscular construction, as evidenced by this Tomato. Measuring less than five inches long, this piece is a snug take on the classic form, its subdued build making it perfect for on-the-go smoking. Up front, a squat bowl stands atop a wide heel and grows supple walls that take on an arcing taper to a rounded rim. Said rim slopes at its aft, dropping gradually into the transition and drawing the eye to the aft, where a thick shank flicks upward and joins a demurely curved, black vulcanite saddle stem. The shank-and-stem arrangement promotes a comfortable smoking posture and provides balance to the overall form, all while imbuing the shape's silhouette with a gestural curvature. A crisp sandblast completes the ensemble and provides a handsome showing of grain, with rippling growth rings covering the briar's flanks.
