Michael Parks: Sandblasted Bent Billiard (IV.17) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-473-0079

Classic, old-school English shaping brought to the modern, artisanal stage — that's how I'd sum up the majority of Michael Parks' work. You can see that fusion of the old and the new on full display here in this bent Billiard rendition. The elongated transition and dramatic S-curve of the shank and stem are a clear nod to the celebrated Dunhill "LC" and its subsequent "Swan Neck" designs, albeit perhaps even more exaggerated than those historical examples. The finish, likewise, is classic; its dark, ruby-tinged palette and gnarly depth call to mind the look of those old-school English blasts of yesteryear. Then you come to the mouthpiece: a striking, almost surrealist pattern of light laurel green and jet-black brindled vulcanite. Modernist, yet still quite complementary to the overall composition, it's just exquisite work all around.
