Mike Sebastian Bay: Sandblasted Dublin with Mastodon Tooth Tobacco Pipe

A petite, whimsical number from Michael Sebastian Bay, this Dublin offers something a touch different from some of the other pieces we've seen. A slender saddle-stem is paired to a trim shank, while the bowl is almost towering in comparison, holding a generously-proportioned chamber within. On the surface, it's been finished in a well-considered sandblast, bringing out some stacked growth rings, particularly along the flanks. That finish is even more remarkable when you consider the palette, its dark stain and warm rim complementing an accent of natural mastodon tooth, itself in shades of gray, brown, and black. It's stunning work, and one that should be convenient for slipping into a jacket pocket at a moment's notice.
